World Music Award Goes to…

“World Music Award” goes to Larisa Stow & Shakti Tribe at the Malibu Music Awards, 2011.

It was a night full of glitz, movie and music stars, red carpets, and high fashion.  The Malibu Music Awards were held at the Malibu Country Mart on September 24, 2011.  As Shakti Tribe’s #1 Roadie, I was given the privilege of attending to see Shakti Tribe receive the “World Music Award” but I also had the honor of receiving the fictitious “Roadie Award” in my imagination.  The night was filled with music, as bands and performers played their short sets in rapid fire succession.  The Cimarelli Sisters (Jackson 5 Award), Mike Pinera of Iron Butterfly, Blues Image, and Alice Cooper Band (Legendary Rocker Award), Lainie Kazan (Lifetime Achievement Award),  Frank Stallone – yes, it’s Sly’s brother, who had a huge hit with his band Survivor  – who can forget “Eye Of The Tiger“? (American Songwriter Award), Abraham McDonald (Inspirational R&B Award), Chris Amodeo (Best Upcoming Artist Award), and so many more.

Larisa Stow & Shakti Tribe created quite a sensation with their stirring rendition of the “The Lord’s Prayer” in Aramaic, which took the audience on a camel ride through the desert followed by an instant high-octane rocket ride with “Rock On Sat Nam”, an English-Sanskrit lyrical tour de force.  The audience was blown away by the ride, and many music producers and fans reported that the two song set was amazing and the highlight of the Malibu Music Awards, 2011.  The “World Music Award” reflects Shakti Tribe’s musical excellence in the use of English, Sanskrit, Aramaic, and Hebrew in their music which blends Rock with world influences.

The Malibu Music Awards & Festival benefits the Malibu Symphony Association 501c3 and children’s music programs and community music efforts, with a portion of the proceeds donated to The UCLA Simms/Mann Center for Integrative Oncology in recognition of the upcoming October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
